United Way bringing good vibes to annual bartender battle

FORT MYERS, Fla. - EntSun -- A funky evening for a groovy cause is set for United Way of Lee, Hendry, and Glades' third annual Bartender Battle on Oct. 29. The family-friendly fundraiser will take place again at Bay Street Yard in Fort Myers and feature a '70s Halloween costume party theme.

This year's event puts United Way board members behind the bar mixing cocktails to support the nonprofit's 2027 annual campaign. Under the leadership of co-chairs Joe Catti, Cliff Smith and Jim Nathan, the "bartenders" will be serving drinks, engaging with guests and competing against each other for the most tips and sales.

Guests will have the opportunity to show off their far-out style and radical flair while competing for stellar prizes in the evening's Halloween costume contest, including the following categories:

• Best Dressed Group (three or more)
• Best Dressed Couple
• Best Individual
• People's Choice

"We're excited about presenting this entertaining event again this year that supports all of our programs," said Hannah Pelle, interim president and CEO of United Way of Lee, Hendry, and Glades. "We had such tremendous support for the first two years. We're looking forward to an even better event this year with the addition of the 1970s costume theme and the opportunity to raise more funds for the communities we serve."

All tips and 20% of food and drink proceeds will go to United Way for its programs that support education, financial stability, food security and health initiatives within the community. Last year's event raised nearly $38,000.

Music from Tom Petty cover band Learning to Fly South will entertain guests throughout the evening.

The Bartender Battle will take place Thursday, Oct. 29, from 5 to 9 p.m. at Bay Street Yard, located at 2136 Bay St. in Fort Myers.
