Young New Jersey Filmmaker's Domestic Drama Marries Indie Sensibility with Psychological Thriller

POMPTON PLAINS, N.J. - EntSun -- Film Distributor BayView Entertainment is proud to announce the release of Sometime the Wolf, now available on finer streaming video platforms.

The psychological debut film by writer-director William Garcia Bigelow follows an expecting suburban couple whose lives are disrupted by a random act of violence. In the aftermath, Hal (Boris Granolic) and Rosalyn (Marisela Grajeda Gonzalez) navigate practical realities and growing tensions, exposing latent mental illness and a fractured domesticity. It is a disquieting, voyeuristic look into modern life as it contends with an uncertain future.

Shot on a conservative budget of $15,000, Bigelow purposely set forth to engage with a certain type of naturalist cinema that had been neglected in recent years. To accomplish his goal, he developed a project that captures a sense of unsteady suburbia and unsolvable relationship nuances.

"Despite my love for action films, it was originally conceived as an 'anti-action' movie, containing only one brief moment of violence," explains Bigelow," "…leaving the characters to contend with the emotional aftermath."

Sometime the Wolf premiered in competition at the esteemed Lighthouse International Film Festival in Long Beach, New Jersey. Senior programmer, Natalie Caricato, championed the film, whose screening was followed by a panel discussion and lively Q&A that was an engaging deep dive into the difficulties of low-budget feature filmmaking and the shared desire among a new breed of directors to re-naturalize cinema.

The emotions inside of us all, both those expressed and those suppressed, were a particular driver for Bigelow's storytelling.

"The film centers on mental health, specifically OCD, which is portrayed in repeated rituals and behaviors that arise from the stress of the situation. Oftentimes, mental health is portrayed theatrically, but I wanted to capture the quiet banality of burgeoning mental illness," says Bigelow.

"We were struck by William's thoughtful approach toward the subject matter," said BayView Entertainment President Peter Castro. "Audiences looking for intimate, tonal character work will be rewarded by the slow-burn realism in this drama and perhaps be inspired to take a deeper look inside themselves."
