Symphony San Jose names classical music industry leader Robert Massey General Director

SAN JOSE, Calif. - EntSun -- Respected West Coast orchestra Symphony San Jose is proud to announce the appointment of Robert Massey to General Director. The Symphony San Jose Board of Directors created a 7-person search committee of directors and musicians of the Symphony to identify a successor to founder Andrew Bales pending his long-planned retirement. Assisted by Arts Consulting Group, the leading provider of management services to the arts industry, the search committee was presented with the most qualified and diverse candidates from around the world. A veteran in the classical music space, Massey built a reputation as a dynamic, visionary, and entrepreneurial leader in the music industry. He has served as chief executive of the Jacksonville Symphony, Opera Festival of Chicago, Louisville Orchestra, Orchestra Iowa, and the Washington Bach Consort.

Throughout his 25-year career in arts administration, Massey has commissioned more than 50 new compositions, choreographies, and stage productions; overseen two performing arts venue construction projects; led three multimillion-dollar fundraising campaigns; and co-founded the Opera Festival of Chicago, Iris Orchestra, and Opus Concert Café.
