New Documentary Chronicles the Chase for College Basketball Stardom
POMPTON PLAINS, N.J. - EntSun -- BayView Entertainment proudly announces the release of Rise Above: The Journey to College Basketball coming to AVOD platforms October 29th.
Declared "A feel good sports story" by no less an authority than Steve James, director of the groundbreaking high school basketball documentary, Hoop Dreams, this new film from directors Seth Shapiro and Erik Butts highlights three high school basketball players struggling against the odds to make it to the elite level of college basketball and beyond.
Amidst a series of setbacks including family hardships and tragedies, personal injuries, scholarship woes, and the Covid-19 pandemic shut-downs, these players do all they can to overcome the obstacles in their paths and achieve their shared dream of playing college basketball.
At the center are three young athletes with compelling, heartfelt tales to tell:
* Marco Kenz, a tall forward from Ghana, emigrated to the U.S. through an exchange program, in hopes that basketball can help provide a better life for him and his family. While his skills still need to catch up to his size, Marco's only hope of staying in the U.S hinges on getting a scholarship.

* Jaayden Bush, a Long Beach point guard faces the opposite hurdle: he has the swagger and confidence of a 5-star recruit, just not the size. Worse, a family tragedy threatens to overshadow his refuge on the court, as he struggles to overcome his grief while risking losing the attention of recruiters.
* Cord Stansberry, a talented Palm Desert guard with a basketball pedigree grew up having privileged access to NBA royalty. However, an unforeseen injury suffered during a game throws his future into uncertainty, as he faces the prospect of his scholarship offers being pulled.
Peppered with interviews of some NBA stars who travelled the same roads, including Earl Watson, Matt Barnes, and Darren Collison, Rise Above offers insight and inspiration to all who aspire to basketball greatness.
It's a poignant coming-of-age journey as these three under-the-radar high school basketball players are driven to make it to the next level, navigating the uncertainty of their futures amidst an already volatile recruiting landscape.
"With college basketball and the NBA's continuing dominance as some of the nation's most popular sports, we know this is one film fans of the game will not want to miss," exclaims BayView's VP of Acquisitions, Peter Castro.
