Independent organization Libraries_SOS will host a state-wide read-in on Nov. 1 to encourage use of public libraries and to bring awareness to the negative impacts Amendment 3 poses.

ORLANDO, Fla. - EntSun -- Independent organization Libraries_SOS will host a state-wide read-in on Nov. 1 to bring awareness to the potential negative impact of Amendment 3. As early voting begins Oct. 19, Floridians are encouraged to share their affinity for the library, a public service that relies heavily on funding generated by local property taxes.

Amendment 3 – a referendum introduced by the Florida legislature – would drastically expand non-school property tax exemptions, reducing budgets for local governments by an estimated $13 billion over the next two fiscal years. These cuts represent an existential threat not only to key public safety services, but also to robust community services such as library and park systems that bring value to all citizens, regardless of ability or income level.

Organizations and citizens who oppose the measure can participate in the following activities:

- Record a vertical video for social media, answering one or all of these questions:
  1. What book from your local library do you recommend?
  2. What's your fondest library memory or favorite library service?
  3. Why do we need fully-funded libraries at this moment in history?
  4. What should people know about Amendment 3?   Ex. "It claims to save us money, but it's a way to defund our services and remove home rule. Critical cuts to funding for our libraries, and other services we love, would only be the beginning."
  5. What can we do about it? Vote No on 3, on Nov. 3
