Historic Louisiana Home Cottentop Inspires New Atmospheric Mystery, The Ghostwriter

MORGAN CITY, La. - EntSun -- Cottentop has stood in Morgan City since 1909, its sweeping columns and long history making it one of the area's distinctive old homes. Today, the house has inspired a new atmospheric mystery of memory, family secrets, and things that are not always easily explained.

The Ghostwriter, the debut novel by Gaelyn Andrews and the first book in The Cottentop Mysteries, was inspired by the historic Louisiana home Andrews is fortunate to call her own.

The house has a long history, and over the years there have been moments within it that have resisted easy explanation. Those experiences, together with the atmosphere and memories held within an old home, helped shape the fictional world of The Ghostwriter.

In the novel, Eponine Gardener arrives at Cottentop and discovers that she is not quite alone. A ghost who has never quite left home becomes part of an unlikely friendship that reaches across time.

When an afternoon gathering ends in a sudden death, the past begins to press closer to the present, drawing Eponine into a mystery of long-held secrets, memory, and the stories an old house may keep.

At its heart, The Ghostwriter is an atmospheric murder mystery in which an unexplained death, long-buried secrets, and a house full of memory draw the living and the dead into the same search for the truth.

Cottentop itself remains a private residence and is not open to the public.

The Ghostwriter is now available in paperback, hardcover, and ebook editions.
