Glassbreaker Films Awards Grant to Short Documentary on Black Cowboy Community
EntSun News/10759305
LOS ANGELES - Nov. 28, 2018 - EntSun -- CONTINUING A LEGACY, the short documentary by Elizabeth Bayne, has received full funding to complete production through a grant from Glassbreaker Films. The film is scheduled for completion in May 2019.
CONTINUING A LEGACY is a simple story about a girl and her horse that introduces audiences to the lesser known African American community of cowboys. The film follows the 11-year old daughter of former bull rider and jockey, Dihigi Gladney, through a single season of the California Junior Rodeo Association (CJRA). Juggling school, practice, competitive events, finances, and time becomes the family's shared experience as the daughter pursues her goal to become the first black CJRA girls barrel racing champion.
Bayne began following the black cowboy community several years ago after attending the Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo in the City of Industry. Fascinated by the African American cowboy community and their ongoing efforts to pass their traditions to the next generation, Bayne recognized the opportunity to share this history through a documentary about the early stages of competitive horse racing.

Joined by cinematographer Victor Stein, editor Anedra Edwards, and composer JB Bontemps, Bayne is producing and directing CONTINUING A LEGACY with the cooperation of the CJRA and the Jurupa Unified School District, located an hour east of Los Angeles.
