EntSun News/10797768
BEDMINSTER, N.J. - EntSun -- The Center for Contemporary Art's 2019 International Juried Ceramics Exhibition is on view through December 21, 2019.
Juror Garth Johnson selected 51 pieces from more than 400 entries. Ceramic artists were encouraged to enter work from across a variety of display solutions, including video or film related to clay. New Jersey artists selected for the exhibition are: Maxwell Mustardo (Pittstown, NJ), Marisol Ross (Glen Ridge, NJ), Steven Sitrin (Martinsville, NJ) and Skeff Thomas (Monroeville, NJ).
Three artists were awarded cash prizes:
First Prize: Shalya Marsh (Morgantown, WV)
Second Prize: Lucien Koonce (Haydenville, MA)
Third Prize: Eliza Au (Keller, TX)
In addition, Shalya Marsh (Morgantown, WV) and Maxwell Mustardo (Pittstown, NJ) were awarded 2020 solo exhibitions at The Center for Contemporary Art by The Center's Exhibitions Committee.
In his juror statement, Garth Johnson, explains, "I was delighted to open the nearly 500 submissions to The Center for Contemporary Art's 2019 International Juried Ceramics Exhibition to find works that encompass the mind-boggling spectrum of work that makes up today's field. I was delighted to see work by established artists, as well as younger artists who are just starting their journey. To narrow the submissions to just fifty-one works was painful, but ultimately, this exhibition bristles with the energy that keeps me engaged and committed to ceramics as a discipline."
