Trans Artist Jacob Clayton Debuts Public Art Installation

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - EntSun -- Transgender artist Jacob Clayton is celebrating the debut of his first public art installation, 2020 Vision, now on display as part of the Northampton Banner Project.

A departure from his primarily photo-based work, 2020 Vision draws on Jacob's experience as a graphic designer while continuing his exploration of identity, visibility, and freedom. The installation also represents a deeply personal milestone for an artist who spent more than two decades living in fear of being seen.

Inspired by a classic eye chart, the graphic artwork places the words "ALL HUMAN" at the 20/20 level.

"The most perfect vision, in my estimation, is recognizing the humanity in one another, as a reflection of ourselves," says Clayton. "As a transgender man, seeing myself represented out in the world exactly as I am is a liberation."

The Northampton Banner Project banners will remain on display throughout downtown Northampton for up to five years. 2020 Vision can be viewed outside 47 Pleasant Street, at the corner of Pleasant and Armory Streets.
