New Film 'Pill Head' Pummels Superhero Fatigue and Addictive Binges — Not Audiences

PETALUMA, Calif. - EntSun -- Audiences seeking sophisticated entertainment have turned away from superhero-glutted movie theaters only find themselves having to binge-watch streamers to get a story's full arc. In the film, art student Theda (Emily Ahrens in her feature film debut) finds herself becomes a specimen in her university's experimental psych program after an overdose. But there's a side effect: She begins to see into the possibilities of alternate universes. When a doppelganger wards her off the program's enigmatic Dr. Ashe (Alia Beeton), she's determined to escape but her salvation lays through the looking glass of quantum quandaries and overcoming her own nature.

Throughout, Pill Head suggests a retro French New Wave sensibility with raw, verité-style black and white visuals, stunning debut performances, and a soaring original score by Longwave's Shannon Ferguson.

The critically-lauded film played theatrically in the Bay Area and marks the latest collaboration of Karen Hess and Daedalus Howell (producer-designer and writer-director, respectively) who create outside-the-box narrative art experiences in Petaluma, CA.
