Powwow Times Announces Powwow Dance Championships #2: Top Indigenous Dancers Face Off in Red Deer

RED DEER, Alberta - EntSun -- Powwow Times, an award-winning Indigenous cultural organization based in Alberta, is proud to announce the Powwow Dance Championships #2, taking place October 23–24, 2026, at Red Deer Resort & Casino in Red Deer, Alberta.

For years, Powwow Times has hosted championship powwows that put the world's best dancers and drum groups on the same floor. The Powwow Dance Championships is the evolution of that work — a purpose-built event born from a dream to spotlight and celebrate the world's greatest powwow champions in a format that transcends the traditional powwow circle.

The Powwow Dance Championships distills the powwow to its most extraordinary core: the battles, the drum, the champions, the moments that take your breath away.

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 23 — FREE PUBLIC EVENT: The championship weekend opens Friday with a free event welcoming everyone. Guests explore an Indigenous Marketplace featuring vendors from across Turtle Island and meet the world champion dancers competing the following night. Media are especially invited to a dedicated Press Conference where competing dancers are available for questions, interviews, and photography. Friday admission is complimentary — no tickets required.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 24 — THE MAIN EVENT: Doors open at 4:00 PM for early access to the Indigenous Marketplace and prime seating. Dancing begins at 6:00 PM and runs until approximately midnight. Saturday features: 8 dance battles — world's best powwow dancers competing head-to-head under a single spotlight; 2 world-class drum groups performing live; live tie-breakers and sudden-death rounds; a family-friendly atmosphere welcoming all ages.
