Melissa Otero Turns the Voices in Her Head Into a Pop Anthem on New Single "Circus"

Out September 25, the independent Puerto Rican artist unleashes a maximalist wall of vocoders, alter egos and layered vocals, turning inner chaos into a celebration of loving every version of yourself.

PARIS - EntSun -- Puerto Rican independent artist, songwriter and producer Melissa Otero will release her new single "Circus" on September 25, 2026, introducing the first official single from her forthcoming project, Part 2: All The Parts of Me. Built as deliberately maximalist pop, "Circus" turns inner noise, contradiction and competing personalities into a record about accepting every version of yourself—even the ones that refuse to behave.

At the center of the track is Otero's lead vocal, surrounded by harmonies, doubles, vocoders, processed voices and distinct vocal characters. Some blend into the lead while others interrupt, answer or fight for space around it. Rather than cleaning those personalities away, Otero allows the chorus to become intentionally overwhelming, creating a sonic representation of what it feels like when every part of a person wants to be heard at once.

"I realized that making the song too clean or too polite would defeat the purpose," Otero says. "There are so many voices happening that you almost lose where one ends and another begins. That's the circus. But underneath all of that chaos is one person, and every one of those pieces still belongs to her."

The production also marks a return to Otero's roots behind the console. She began sequencing and producing music with Cakewalk in the 1990s and has created full arrangements throughout her career. For "Circus," she rebuilt and layered elements using MIDI-programmed bass, strings, synth textures, vocal sound design and extensive arrangement work, combining polished commercial pop with deliberately unpredictable details.

That idea extends into the visual world surrounding the single, which will feature people of different ethnicities, appearances and personalities. The broader message behind All The Parts of Me is that people should not have to become smaller, quieter or less complicated to deserve love. The project embraces contradiction and individuality rather than presenting self-acceptance as something that only arrives after the chaos disappears.
