Local Plant Festival celebrates 25 years
EntSun News/10795268
November offers perfect planting weather in Florida. Stock up on unusual and native plants for your home and garden.
MOUNT DORA, Fla. - EntSun -- The "Festival City" celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Mount Dora Plant and Garden Fair on November 9 and 10, 2019 in Donnelly Park.
Event originator Christine Cole has managed the event with partner Gene Packwood since its inception in the early 90's.
Christine says "I used to live in Baltimore and there is a festival there called Flower Mart. It was a beautiful event with vendors and all sorts of plants and flowers. It was held in the center of town and I just loved going to the event. "
"When I moved to Mount Dora some people approached me about having a plant sale and I said, 'Let's do this right' and so I started visiting nurseries and doing my homework and started the Mount Dora Plant and Garden Fair."
Twenty five years later, Cole is the longest continuous event stake holder in Mount Dora, FL.
This year she is getting some help from well known local festival coordinator Janet Gamache who's organizational skills helped get the Mount Dora Craft Fair ranked the #4 Craft Festival in the nation 2019 by Sunshine Artists Magazine.

Gamache says " I am absolutely thrilled. Combining my passion for festivals and love for plants is a perfect combination. I'm looking forward to working with Christine this year to learn the ropes and promise to make the Mount Dora Plant and Garden Fair one of the best in the area."
November is the perfect time to plant in Florida and the festival will feature both native and exotic nurseries from all over Florida. Expect to find orchids, airplants, fruit trees, bamboo, bromeliads and many other specialty vendors. Some crafters will be on hand to show and sell nature inspired products and vendors will have items like hanging chairs and bird houses to enhance your outdoor space.
The 25th annual Mount Dora Plant and Garden Fair takes place Sat Nov 9, 2019 9am-5pm and Sun Nov 10, 2019 9am-4pm rain or shine in Donnelly Park. It is FREE to attend.
