Former Army Captain is Appointed to Mrs. America Ethics Committee

Raquel Riley Thomas, a former Army Ordnance Captain, is a new member of the Ethics, Standards and Procedures Committee for Mrs. America.

WASHINGTON - Nov. 29, 2018 - EntSun -- Raquel has a standing history with the Mrs. America organization, having worked within the organization since 2011. She is the Executive Director of six pageants within the Mrs. America family: Miss DC for America, Mrs. DC America, Miss DE for America, Mrs. DE America, Miss PA for America and Mrs. PA America pageants. Raquel owns a Veteran-Owned production company, An Officer and Gentlewoman, LLC, which houses the above pageants under one umbrella.

"I am pleased to announce that Raquel Riley Thomas has been appointed to the Ethics, Standards, and Procedures Committee for Mrs. America. Raquel has been an outstanding director over the years.  I am confident that she will add a valuable and an experienced voice to the Committee," Carl Schway, Committee Chairman.

Raquel is a decorated military veteran, having served nine years in the U.S. Army (5-years Enlisted photojournalist; 4-years Ordnance Officer). She is a graduate of Hampton University with a degree in Psychology.

Raquel's accomplishments have been noted in both her military and civilian career. In the Army, she was awarded the Army Commendation Medal (2x) and the Army Achievement Medal (3x). Recently, Marquis Who's Who of America awarded Raquel the "Lifetime Achievement Award." For her commitment to fighting for military Veteran's rights, Raquel was selected as the "Veteran of the Year" 2011, by Women Veteran's Rock. Raquel was also titled a "Leader of the Future," by Ebony Magazine, Marquis "Who's Who of America," (6-consecutive years), and Washington Business Journal "People on the Move." She was also selected as the "Director of the Year" 2017 by Mrs. America, Inc. She was recently inducted into the Library of Congress under the "Veterans History Project" where her military history is now stored in video and pictures.

Mrs. America Pageant is a beauty competition that was established to honor married women throughout the United States of America. Each of the contestants representing the 50 states and the District of Columbia range in age from their 20s to 50s and earns the right to participate in the national event by winning her state competition. These state events are under the direction of Mrs. America state directors. The winner goes on to compete in the Mrs. World pageant. A new "Miss" division has been added to the organization that focuses on unattached women.
