Durham Record Label Maison Fauna Announces Its First Release

DURHAM, N.C. - EntSun -- As Maison Fauna's introductory release, Field Guide I is both a cross-genre synthesis and a statement of who we are. As a label, we always put music first; whether it be house, techno, or UK garage, you can expect the most refined selections from artists all over the world. The compilation, like the name suggests, guides you through the versatility innate to our artists and their work. This makes listening to the anthology akin to embarking on a sonic journey; listeners are transported to a world where the creativity of our artists is the only guide. We managed to pack the double LP with 19 tracks featuring 22 artists, including Blursome, (whose releases on Scuba's Hotflush Records have been compared to Burial), and Daniels Jack, (with releases on Nervous Records and Desert Hearts; his track here is more akin to Blawan). As lovers of all forms of underground electronic music, this journey begins in a dark, ambient space. It then traverses several different variants of minimal, deep, and electro house, prior to concluding with both sample-heavy and melodic techno.

Friday the 13th is a notoriously spooky date with a rich, supernatural and superstitious history. For us, music transcends the natural realm; thus, we embrace these associations in addition to all things celestial, and we have imbued these ideologies into both our brand and the compilation.  We collaborated with each artist to create an illustration of a mythical beast that they identify with. These beasts will be a consistent theme for the Field Guide. The record, which will be pressed to vinyl and distributed through Redeye, will feature a flash sheet insert from our favorite tattoo artists as well as download codes for extended mixes and secret tracks. It will be available on all major streaming platforms.

Post-Field Guide 1, listeners should only expect more from the Maison Fauna imprint. Most of the artists on the compilation have followup releases underway, and the label already has a busy release schedule for 2021. The Field Guide gives listeners a first taste of what's coming.
