While "Dear Depression" may be a nice ode to those who suffer or are around those who suffer from mental illness it's not the whole fight and Alana knows this. Starting in 2018, Joanne started working with an Australian group called Headspace, a local organization that helps youth suffering from mental illness. Seeking closure in her own life from previous traumas and seeing her music as a mode of transport to spread the word, she sold tickets for a Headspace sponsored concert and made sure more than 60% of the proceeds went to that same organization. From there on, Alana Joanne's battle with depression has not only been very personal, but very much physical and manifesting itself in the real world. "Dear Depression" is an essential addition to Joanne's catalog for the sheer fact that it is important to her to spread this message of hope to those who may need to hear it.
