1893 Chicago's Columbian Exposition documentary film now available on Gumroad
EntSun News/10903521
CHICAGO - EntSun -- 1893 Chicago's Columbian Exposition the documentary film explores the World's Fair through a collection of photos taken during the event as well as the words and modern photography as well as video taken by filmmaker Michael Finney. The project began in 2018 starting first on social media networks, then expanding with the release of a paperback book as well as accompanying ebook and audiobook versions, plus a line of merchandise including apparel.
Finney remarked, "Gumroad allows creators to connect directly with the people that appreciate the work. It is a boon to authors, filmmakers, and those looking to distribute content. Giving independent producers the opportunity to release projects of all kinds is incredible, one I'm very pleased to say enables this project about the 1893 Columbian Exposition World's Fair in Chicago to reach a wider audience."
Now the documentary film is available via the platform for $7.50 to purchase or $2.50 to rent.
This project started when the author acquired a book of official photographs published in 1893 to document the first Chicago World's Fair. After creating a thread of images and commentary on Twitter, Finney decided to gather up the entries and attempt to craft a narrative from the individual posts. "Delving into this history has been a really organic process that I just sort of fell backwards into without the foresight to create an object with physical permanence. It's really amazing to see the results while exploring this event over the last three years", he remarked.
