Vietnam Veteran Bruce Goldwell Releases "United We Stand," a Call to Reject Political Division
EntSun News/11099685
New book examines how political labels, media, social media, identity politics, and tribalism are turning disagreement into hostility—and argues that the Constitution offers Americans common ground.
ORLANDO, Fla. - EntSun -- Vietnam veteran and author Bruce Goldwell announces the release of United We Stand: How the Language of Division Is Turning Americans Against One Another—and How We Find Common Ground Again, a new book examining one of America's most urgent questions:
Can Americans disagree passionately without becoming enemies?
Goldwell argues that disagreement is not the problem. America was built to accommodate competing ideas, beliefs, political parties, and visions for the future. The danger begins when disagreement becomes dehumanization.
United We Stand examines how political labels and slogans can turn neighbors into opposing tribes. The book explores race, equality and equity, capitalism and socialism, universities, media, social media, immigration, free speech, cultural conflict, political incentives, and tribalism.
Rather than blaming one political party, Goldwell asks readers to examine a larger problem: Who benefits when Americans remain angry with one another?

Political campaigns need motivated voters. Media organizations need audiences. Social platforms need engagement. Activists need attention. Organizations need donors. Influencers need followers. No conspiracy is required when the incentives already reward conflict.
Goldwell's perspective is shaped in part by his service in the United States Army, including Vietnam in 1970.
"Americans do not have to surrender their convictions to become united," Goldwell says. "We can argue about the future of the country while remembering that the person across from us is still a fellow American."
The book ultimately returns to the Constitution as common ground. Freedom of speech, freedom of religion, due process, equal protection, representative government, limited governmental power, and individual liberty provide a framework in which Americans can disagree while remaining free.
The final message of United We Stand is not choose my side.
It is:
Choose America over division.
A dedicated website includes a free sample chapter, editorial review, discussion questions, sources and notes, media resources, and expanded material about the book.
