September 24 Marks the Third Annual Corbin's Legacy Back-to-School Day at A.T. Still University in Mesa, AZ
MESA, Ariz. - EntSun -- On September 24, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., A.T. Still University (ATSU) will host the third annual Corbin's Legacy Back-to-School Day. Approximately 325 Title 1 second through fifth graders from throughout the greater Phoenix area will receive free health, dental, hearing, and vision services and supplies. Services will be provided by clinical faculty and students. The event will be held at the Mesa campus of the 127-year old institution. More than 200 volunteers will be on hand to assure a smooth-running, safe and secure event.
Students will be bused to the university, escorted by their teachers and adult chaperones. In addition to medical, dental, vision, and hearing screenings, Corbin's Legacy will assist any child needing follow up care. During the event, children will rotate through stations, including various health screenings, as well as fun activities while waiting for their next screenings. ATSU physical therapy students will teach children how to properly carry a backpack so as to prevent back and shoulder injuries. At the end of the event each child will receive a new backpack filled with school supplies, toys and surprises. Corbin's Legacy will provide hot lunches and healthy snacks throughout the day.

Children, in order to thrive, must have their basic needs met. Those needs include the elimination of chronic food insecurity, having their medical, dental, vision and hearing needs met, and being assured of a steady stream of supplies in order to be properly equipped academically. Many of the students who attend the event are uninsured or underinsured, and would not otherwise have access to critical health screenings. By addressing these basic needs, ATSU and Corbin's Legacy are preparing children for success, in and out of the classroom.
About Corbin's Legacy: Corbin's Legacy, a 501(c)(3) public charity was established in 2015 to help underrepresented and vulnerable children by eliminating food and medical insecurities. In 2018 we opened the first of what we hope to be many free clinics in local public elementary schools. Throughout the year we deliver food directly to the classroom.
