NEW YORK - EntSun -- Designer Takayuki Tanaka and Modelist Motoyuki Matsumot of the up-and-coming brand Divka, based in Japan, discussed their journeys into becoming designers in an interview with Find Your ID NYC.
Based in Japan, the brand's name "Divka" was created based on the idea of creating clothes that no one ever has seen before.
"We've chosen to be in the fashion business because we were very influenced by some of the well-known designers from the '90s when we were growing up. We've always believed that the power of the creative fashion holds the power just as we've been a believer that such creative clothes holds the power and moves people just as we used to be when we were younger," said Tanaka.
The creatives discussed how their brand was significantly impacted by COVID-19. The pandemic devastated the business by taking away the brand's ability to showcase new seasonal collections in Tokyo, New York and Paris– as the owners usually plan to.

"Fashion business has changed compared to the time we were growing up. Now a days, such un-trained young designers have been the designers such as SNS. Creating the real designs are often not so easy, but we identify ourselves and define ourselves that such creation has been the most important aspect of our designs. If that changes something we don't know," said Matsumot.
