Texas: Governor Abbott Activates State Emergency Response Resources Ahead Of Flash Flood Danger
EntSun News/11097118
~ As severe weather and flash flooding threats loom over Texas, Governor Greg Abbott has taken action to ensure the safety of the state's residents. In a press release issued today, the governor directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) to activate state emergency response resources.
According to Governor Abbott, the state will deploy all necessary resources to assist local officials in responding to potential severe weather and flash flooding across Texas. He urged all Texans to stay informed by monitoring local forecasts and following guidance from state and local officials. The governor also reminded residents to "Turn Around, Don't Drown," a crucial safety measure when dealing with floodwaters.
The National Weather Service has predicted a moisture-rich weather pattern that will bring heavy rainfall to large portions of Texas through the end of the week. Slow-moving storms may cause flash flooding in North, West, Central, South, and East Texas starting tonight, with the main threats expected early-to-mid week. The primary hazards include rainfall and flash flooding, with stronger thunderstorms capable of producing damaging wind gusts and large hail.

These include Swiftwater Rescue Boat Squads, Urban Search and Rescue Teams, rescue swimmers from Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (Texas A&M Task Force 1 and Texas Task Force 2), All Hazards Group responders and regional personnel from TDEM, personnel and high-profile vehicles from the Texas National Guard for assisting stranded motorists, Blackhawk helicopters for flood rescues, personnel monitoring roadway conditions from the Texas Department of Transportation, Game Wardens and rescue boat teams from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department for water rescues, helicopters with hoist capability from the Texas Department of Public Safety (Texas Highway Patrol Troopers), medics, ambulances and all-terrain vehicles from the Texas Department of State Health Services (Texas Emergency Medical Task Force), Disaster Assessment and Recovery Agents and County Extension Agents from the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service for agricultural and livestock needs, power-outage monitoring and coordination with utility providers from the Public Utility Commission of Texas, monitoring of the state's natural-gas supply and communication with the oil and gas industry from the Railroad Commission of Texas, and air, water, and wastewater monitoring from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
