Comedy Musical Shangri-La-La Takes Siegfried & Roy, Vegas Magic, and Tiger-Sized Trouble on the Fringe Festival Road

A new musical comedy about spectacle, reinvention, impossible dreams, and the dangerously thin line between magic and madness.

NEW YORK - EntSun -- The rhinestones are ready, the tigers have been warned, and the lawyers have wisely stepped aside. Shangri-La-La, a new comedy musical inspired by the rise of Siegfried & Roy, is heading to audiences in Harrisburg, New York, Philadelphia, and online through the Rogue Theater Festival.

Written by Mike Meier and Peter Giambalvo, Shangri-La-La is an original musical comedy about the strange, glittering, and occasionally hazardous world of Las Vegas entertainment. The 1-hour festival version follows the creation of the Siegfried & Roy legend — the ambition, friendship, magic, showbiz hustle, big cats, bigger hair, and the eternal question: who first thought this was a good idea?

"The show is about dreams, reinvention, spectacle, and the surprisingly popular decision to share a stage with large carnivores," said writer/composer Mike Meier. "It is inspired by actual events — unfortunately — but we added music, comedy, and enough Vegas sparkle to make reality feel underdressed."

Part musical comedy, part Vegas fever dream, and part cautionary tale about fame, ambition, litigation, and animals with excellent stage presence, Shangri-La-La invites audiences to laugh at the machinery of show business — and maybe even root for the magicians.

Press, bloggers, podcasters, arts groups, theater organizations, senior communities, veterans groups, and fans of magic, comedy, Las Vegas history, and beautifully questionable decisions are invited to contact the production team for interviews, promotional materials, and possible ticket giveaways.
