Spokane: Convicted Felon Arrested in Vancouver After Eluding SPD Officers

~ On September 8th, 2026, officers from the Spokane Police Department's Gun Crime Unit (GCU) attempted to stop Djuan C. Black, who was driving a silver Kia Optima. According to prior history, the officers were aware that Black had been involved in violent crimes in the Spokane region. In fact, he had been arrested in 2025 for Assault 1st Degree and Robbery 1st Degree after allegedly shooting someone.

The officers activated their emergency lights and sirens on their marked patrol vehicle in an attempt to stop Black's vehicle. However, instead of pulling over, Black accelerated and drove recklessly, endangering the public and nearly causing a collision. In order to ensure the safety of those around them, the officers made the decision to deactivate their lights and sirens and stop following Black.

A short time later, the officers received information that Black had abandoned his vehicle in a nearby neighborhood. They responded to the scene for further investigation and upon reviewing video footage, confirmed that Black had fled on foot. Despite efforts by a Spokane Police K9 unit to track him down, he could not be located.

Later that same day, a call came in reporting that a gun, magazine, and bullets had been found in the area of E. Grace Ave and N. Martin St. A nearby business provided video footage which showed Black throwing the gun from his vehicle as he drove by.

The GCU continued their investigation and discovered that Black had fled to Vancouver, WA. A felony arrest warrant was issued for him and on September 17th, 2026 with assistance from the Vancouver Police Department, he was taken into custody for Attempting to Elude a Police Vehicle and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm 1st Degree. During a search of the apartment where Black was found, two additional firearms were recovered by Vancouver police. He now faces two additional charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm 1st Degree and has been booked into the Clark County Jail.

It was also revealed that Black has multiple felony convictions, including three Attempted Robbery 1st convictions, which means he is not legally allowed to possess firearms.

The GCU released photos of the gun and Black's car as evidence in the case. The officers involved in the incident were commended for their quick thinking and concern for public safety. The Spokane Police Department urges anyone with information on Black's whereabouts or any other illegal activity to come forward and assist in keeping their community safe.
