Shabazz Arts to Release Graphic Novel on Bearcat Wright, First Black Pro-Wrestling Champion

The book tells the story of Wright, the first African American pro-wrestling champion. The company targets the 50th anniversary of Wright's historic match for the release date.

In 1963, Bearcat Wright became the first African American pro-wrestling champion. This title was not only a victory for Wright himself but also for all black Americans fighting against discrimination at that time. On August 23, 2023, Shabazz Arts will release a graphic light novel telling his story titled Bearcat Wright & The Kayfable Chronicles. Malik Ali Ibn Rasheed Shabazz is helming this project - the grandchild of Bearcat - and he promises an "inspiring and entertaining" read.
