Shabazz Arts to Release Graphic Novel on Bearcat Wright, First Black Pro-Wrestling Champion

LOS ANGELES - EntSun -- On August 31st, Shabazz Arts will launch a Kickstarter campaign for their new graphic novel, Bearcat Wright & The Kayfable Chronicles. The book tells the story of Wright, the first African American pro-wrestling champion. Malik Ali Ibn Rasheed Shabazz, the grandchild of Wright, is helming the project and promises an "inspiring and entertaining" read. The company targets the 50th anniversary of Wright's historic match for the release date.

In 1963, Bearcat Wright became the first African American pro-wrestling champion. This title was not only a victory for Wright himself but also for all black Americans fighting against discrimination at that time. On August 23, 2023, Shabazz Arts will release a graphic light novel telling his story titled Bearcat Wright & The Kayfable Chronicles. Malik Ali Ibn Rasheed Shabazz is helming this project - the grandchild of Bearcat - and he promises an "inspiring and entertaining" read. Not only will this be an excellent opportunity to learn about an important figure in history, but it will also serve as a celebration of black excellence and resilience in the face of adversity.
