Remade celebrates three years of community reuse in Worcester

WORCESTER, U.K. - EntSun -- To mark the anniversary, Remade welcomed Matt Jenkins, Leader of Worcestershire Council, and Worcester City Mayor, Councillor Tor Pingree, to meet staff, trustees and volunteers and hear about the organisation's progress.

Matt Jenkins has supported Remade since its inception and has continued to take an interest in its development. During the visit, Matt and Councillor Pingree spoke with members of the team and heard about Remades' achievements and plans for the future.

Remade founder Sue Fry welcomed the guests, alongside trustees Gill Hutchinson, Gordon Whittaker, Lisa Compton and Jacky Courtney, staff, volunteers and the organisation's new Creative Learning Resources Advisor, Charlotte Hutchinson.

The visit provided an opportunity to reflect on just how far Remade has come since the store opened three years ago. The organisation now has an amazing 44 volunteers, whose time, skills and enthusiasm are central to its success.

"Three years ago, we opened the doors with a vision of creating a place where useful materials could be saved from landfill and made available to the community," said Sue Fry, founder.. "To see how Remade has grown, and to now have 44 wonderful volunteers supporting us, is fantastic. We're incredibly grateful to everyone who has helped us along the way."

Remade collects materials that might otherwise go to landfill and makes them available for reuse, creative projects, education and practical activities. We estimate 7,000kg have been saved so far. The organisation is continuing to develop its work with schools, nurseries, colleges, universities, community groups and other organisations to encourage creative reuse and make the most of resources that might otherwise be discarded.

Following the speeches and introductions, guests and the Remade team celebrated the anniversary together over tea and a selection of homemade cakes.

As Remade looks towards its fourth year, the organisation is keen to build on its success and continue developing its community of customers, volunteers, donors and partners. Sue Fry added: "Our anniversary is a chance to celebrate everyone who has played a part in the Remade story. We're looking forward to seeing what the next three years bring."
