BOSTON - EntSun -- "Poets," forthcoming album by folk singer Liz Simmons
New England is home to many independent musicians and artists. Folk singer Liz Simmons is one of them. Liz was raised in Greenfield NH, the eldest daughter of Leslie Vogel and Fred Simmons, who are known throughout the region as performers with their popular bands "Tattoo" and the "Folksoul Band". They also host the Folksoul Music Festival, a community favorite, every summer.
Following in her parents' footsteps, Liz makes her living as an independent musician and voice teacher, performing primarily in the band Low Lily, alongside her husband Flynn Cohen and their friend Lissa Schneckenburger. Low Lily performs throughout the northeast, midwest, and beyond. Over the past few years, Liz has written several original songs and arranged covers that belong on a solo album.
Liz co-wrote a song called "Poets" with her friend Dunia Best and her bandmate Lissa Schneckenburger. Inspired by a bookstore/coffee shop in DC called "Busboys and Poets," the song is about a writer who imagines all sorts of possibilities while sitting in a coffee shop, and scribbles them down on paper. In other words, it's about a storyteller. As Liz thought about what it means to be a storyteller, she thought about how musicians are also storytellers.

Liz was surrounded by stories and songs from an early age. She spent much of her earlier childhood traveling throughout North America in a VW bus with her family. Back then her parents were itinerant musicians, and Liz and her sister spent long hours in the back of the bus making up songs, stories and games. Liz's mom loved to sing the story songs of the British Isles, Ireland and Appalachia. Liz and her sister would fall asleep to these songs at night.
Liz decided to call her album "Poets" after the song of the same name, and also reflecting this broader concept of what it means to be an artist and a storyteller. Her songs explore the topics of love, death, time, adventure, urban life, seafaring, and the current environmental reality.
To support Liz's creative journey and be among the first to hear the album when it is finished, please visit https://www.igg.me/at/lizsimmonsvox/x#/ to contribute to her crowdfunding campaign.
