The 18th Annual Oakland International Film Festival completes ten days of presenting sixty-eight films virtually, with the screening of "When the Water Gets Deep" accessed 24 hours a day with a closing panel discussion with filmmakers at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, September 27th.
The audience can access "When Water Gets Deep" at https://theoaklandinternationalfilmfestival.vhx... Audiences can view the film before the panel discussion or after the discussion. The link to the Zoom conversation is locate at http://www.oiff.org/sol/.
Oakland International Film Festival Founder, David Roach, a graduate of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s Alma Mater, Morehouse College, curated 68 films that began with the screening of the documentary film WE ARE THE DREAM: THE KIDS OF THE OAKLAND MLK ORATORICAL FEST that showcases a side of Oakland, CA often never seen. Establishing a "journey of peace," Roach organized films in the chronological order of appearance.

Creating a volunteer training opportunity with the theme of "Familyhood," Roach is recruiting school communities to be a part of the festival's monthly "!st Saturdays" volunteer experience. Amid creating a "journey" of peace Roach paid tribute to two friends of the Oakland International Film Festival, OIFF volunteer, former Red Cross and Tide Foundation staff member, and Community Leader Denise Gums and fellow festival collaborator Kali O'Ray, San Francisco Black Film Festival Director, who both passed respectively this past July and August.
As with many festivals around the world such as the Durban International Film Festival, The Oakland International Film Festival made new gains and new friends in the territory of the virtual film festival.
