'Nightmare' Star Mckenna Bridger Talks Psychological Thriller, Two-Part Shoot And Taking On Violet Adams

LOS ANGELES - EntSun -- Mckenna Bridger stars as Violet Adams in Nightmare alongside Alexander Platt as Dr. Sieck, Christy Dodson as Tessa Whitman, and Angelina Golovnya as Violet's younger sister, Rosie Adams.
The psychological thriller follows Violet through an increasingly intense ordeal that tests her sense of control while revealing the relationships and emotional history beneath it.

"She can be incredibly strong, but she can also be frightened, angry, vulnerable and completely overwhelmed," Bridger said. "None of those things cancel each other out."

Production was divided into two phases, allowing Bridger to encounter Violet at markedly different emotional points. The first phase filmed at the beginning of August 2025, and included much of the film's attic material, placing her opposite Platt's Sieck in some of its most psychologically charged sequences.

Platt joined shortly before filming, but Bridger said their dynamic developed quickly.

"Alex is very present as a scene partner, and I never felt like I had to manufacture a reaction," she said. "There were moments where the more controlled Sieck became, the more emotional Violet became. I loved that contrast."

Those scenes also took a physical toll, with Bridger sometimes realizing only after director Jake Archer called cut how much tension she had been carrying.

Filmed during the same phase, flashbacks with Golovnya's Rosie reveal a markedly different Violet.

"With Rosie, Violet isn't just surviving," Bridger said. "She can smile and take care of her sister. She can be playful, comfortable, and exist without constantly bracing herself."

Dodson, who worked with Bridger during both phases, is a close friend off camera and previous collaborator. Archer also knew Bridger before filming, providing an already existing level of trust during the role's more demanding material.

"He gave me room to bring my own instincts to her while still making sure I understood what the scene needed," Bridger said. "I felt trusted with Violet."

An unexpected challenge emerged when Bridger began losing her voice around the chemistry reads. By the attic shoot, it had become noticeably scratchy — something she felt complemented Violet's exhaustion. Production prioritized a dialogue-heavy scene with Bridger, Platt and Dodson before a sequence involving significant screaming to preserve her voice.

Mckenna Bridger then stepped away from Violet before returning for phase two in late May 2026.

"I was genuinely curious whether she would feel far away," she said. "She didn't. Once I was back in that environment, I recognized her immediately."

The later shoot included a cemetery sequence that required a different approach from the heightened attic material.

"The stillness of it was what made it difficult," Bridger said. "Some of Violet's more obviously intense scenes give me somewhere to put the emotion physically. The cemetery doesn't give her that same outlet."

The earlier Rosie scenes provided an emotional foundation.

"I had actual memories of working with Angelina as Violet," she said. "I could remember smiling with her and experiencing that relationship rather than trying to invent what Rosie meant to Violet."

With Nightmare in post-production, Bridger has yet to see a completed cut.

"I remember all these different versions of Violet separately because I remember filming them — the Violet in the attic, the Violet with Rosie, the Violet at the cemetery," she said. "But to me, they always felt like parts of the same person."

For Mckenna Bridger, still early in her acting career, the scope of the role made Violet particularly significant.

"I don't take getting a role like this for granted," she said. "There were moments when Violet genuinely made me nervous because I cared so much about whether I could do the material justice. But that's what I want. I want characters that challenge me."

Now, she is waiting to see those pieces become one story.

"I'm excited to finally see her whole journey from the outside."
