ATLANTA - EntSun -- Last Tuesday night, June 17th, Venue 78 in Lilburn, Georgia, hosted the premiere of The Book Slam Live, an event that brought the excitement of the popular online show to a live audience. This first-ever live event, building on the success of the online show that has featured over 900 authors since its launch on Clubhouse in 2020, was a resounding success.

Hosted by the show's creator, Indy Brennan, alongside the acclaimed star of the one-woman play "Beneath The Crown," Dr. April K., the evening was filled with dynamic performances and powerful readings.

The event began with a powerful reading by Relationship and Sex Therapist Dr. Cherlisa Jackson from her book "Empowering The Breaking." Her story resonated deeply with the women in the audience, setting a poignant tone for the night. Dr. Kristle Shanell followed with a reading from her autobiographical book "In The Midst Of A Diagnosis," captivating the audience with her raw and intimate account of personal struggles and resilience.

Lyndon Greene, the only male reader and children's author of the evening, delighted the audience with his animated, in-character performance. His engaging delivery added a lively dynamic to the event. Acclaimed author, director, and producer Dr. Jessie Jalee then took the stage with her gripping read from "Becoming A Lady: Misguided." Her sincerity and emotional delivery captivated the audience.

Actress Nereida Velazquez inspired everyone with her courageous reading of "From Pain To Purpose." Though new to performance reading, her bravery and heartfelt delivery made a significant impact. The event also proudly featured two special needs authors, Shalese Nicole Heard, author of the "Neurodivergent Millionaire", and Madam Crystal Butterfly, author of "Curse of the Frog Prince, whose performances, supported by the Art-Izm initiative, showcased their talent and provided an inspiring representation within the book world.

Music played a crucial role in the evening, thanks to the band led by music director Ju Dodson and Michael Miles. Their exceptional musicianship created an immersive reading and listening atmosphere. A special guest performance by a trombonist, who delivered a soul-stirring rendition of Sam Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come," profoundly demonstrated her incredible talent and left the audience in awe.
