Naperville: Structure Fire in the 1800 Block of W. Diehl Road
EntSun News/11096596
NAPERVILLE, Ill. ~ Naperville, Illinois - On Thursday, July 2, 2026, the Naperville Emergency Communications Center (ECC) received a distressing 911 call at 11:30 p.m. The caller reported smoke inside a structure located on the 1800 block of W Diehl Road. In response to the call, the Naperville ECC immediately dispatched a Full Still assignment consisting of two engines, one ladder truck, one medic unit and two battalion commanders.
Upon arrival at the scene, initial responders conducted an incident size-up and observed flames on the roof of the structure. As a result, the alarm was upgraded to a General Alarm assignment which added an additional engine, truck, battalion commander and heavy rescue team to assist in controlling the fire.
The first priority for crews was to ensure that all occupants had safely evacuated the building. Once this was confirmed, they launched an aggressive offensive fire attack. As they continued to assess the situation and determine the full extent of the fire, it became necessary to upgrade the assignment to a Box Alarm and later a 2nd Alarm Box.

By 1 a.m. on July 3rd, most of the fire had been extinguished by diligent suppression efforts from firefighters. However, crews remained on scene to overhaul and extinguish any remaining smoldering embers in order to contain any potential hazards.
The Naperville Fire Department received assistance from various agencies including the Naperville Police Department, Naperville Electric Department, Nicor Gas Company, Bolingbrook Fire Department, Wheaton Fire Department, Warrenville Fire Protection District, West Chicago Fire Department, Aurora Fire Department and Lisle Woodridge Fire Protection District. Together they worked tirelessly to bring the situation under control.
Unfortunately, damage to both the residence and its contents is estimated at $8 million. The cause of this devastating fire is still under investigation. Due to extensive damage caused by flames and smoke inhalation, the building has been deemed uninhabitable. Thankfully, there were no reported injuries to any civilians or firefighters during this incident.
