Maryland Department of Agriculture to Extend Fall Cover Crop Planting Deadline
EntSun News/11104724
ANNAPOLIS, MD (October 09, 2026) ~ The Maryland Department of Agriculture has extended several fall cover crop grant deadlines because recent weather has affected planting operations.
The deadline for aerial seeding, incorporated seeding incentives, and oats and mixes containing legumes or brassicas has moved from Oct. 10 to Oct. 15, 2026, the department said. The extensions are intended to give participating farmers more time to plant and meet grant requirements, while supporting local water quality.

The state's traditional Cover Crop Program is administered by the department's Conservation Grants Program and Maryland's 23 soil conservation districts. Funding comes from the Chesapeake Bay Restoration Fund and the Chesapeake and Atlantic Coastal Bays Trust Fund.
Farmers can contact their local soil conservation district or the department's Conservation Grants Program at 410-841-5864 for more information.
