Hilton Head Island Poetry Trail Stop at Mitchelville Honors Harriet Tubman

GREENVILLE, S.C. - EntSun -- Poet and social justice advocate, Melissa Whiteford St. Clair, Founder of White Girl Advocacy LLC is proud to announce her poem honoring Harriet Tubman, "Harriet's Feat to Freedom" is included on the Hilton Head Island Poetry Trail at stop number 24 (GPS coordinates 32.236858, -80.685880) next to the Toni Morrison's A Bench by the Road at the Historic Mitchelville Freedom Park, 40 Harriet Tubman Way, Hilton Head Island, SC 29926.

A poetry trail is a path that features poems in various settings. Launched in the spring of 2023, this visionary project was the creation of local poetry trailblazer, Elizabeth Robin. The Hilton Head Island Poetry Trail boasts over 25 poetry stop placards, typically near businesses or public art installations. Each poetry stop has a QR code that takes the user to a poem.

Mitchelville was a town built during the American Civil War for formerly enslaved people, located on what is now Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

Founder of White Girl Advocacy, Melissa Whiteford St. Clair found herself emotionally affected by the rise of social injustice in the U.S. She shares her message of unity and social justice through interactive advocacy workshops, antiracism efforts, poetry readings, and talks.
