EntSun News/11096656
(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ On Monday afternoon, a technical rescue took place at the City of Columbia Landfill in Missouri. At 4:01 p.m., the Columbia Fire Department (CFD) received a dispatch call and immediately sent out their companies to respond to the incident.

Upon arrival at the landfill, CFD companies were guided to the scene by City of Columbia Solid Waste employees. The patient was located at approximately 4:12 p.m. after firefighters found a tractor pulling a hydroseeder that had slid into a 24-foot-deep trench. The operator had been ejected from the hydroseeder and was found approximately 16 feet below ground level in an open excavation.

After assessing the situation, crews worked quickly to stabilize the area and began deploying trench rescue equipment. Their main focus was on creating a safe environment for operations to take place. Firefighters were able to access the patient from a secure location, conduct a medical evaluation, and prepare for a complex trench rescue operation.
