Colorado Springs: City crews repair more than 16,400 potholes during five-week surge

EntSun News/11097600
~ In a recent press briefing, Mayor Yemi of Colorado Springs announced that the City's Public Works crews have successfully repaired over 16,400 potholes in just five weeks. This includes more than 10,000 repairs on residential streets. The results were shared during the briefing with Clint Brown, the manager of Public Works Operations and Maintenance Division.

The surge in pothole repairs was a direct response to resident reports and concerns about the state of the city's roads. Mayor Yemi emphasized the importance of local government delivering results and thanked residents for their partnership in reporting potholes through various platforms such as GoCOS, the city's website, and other reporting tools.

During the five-week surge, crews were able to average over 700 pothole repairs per day, which is a significant increase from the city's normal repair pace. This has helped bring the total number of potholes repaired this year to over 60,000, representing a 56% increase compared to last year.

To showcase how resident reports directly lead to action in the field, Mayor Yemi met with a resident from Pinecliff neighborhood named Carl Peterson at the location of a reported pothole. He was joined by a Public Works crew who helped repair the pothole on site.

Residents have been actively using the GoCOS platform to report potholes and other issues, with over 30,000 requests submitted so far. Of those requests, nearly 4,900 were specifically for pothole repairs. The City has also set up a Pothole Watch dashboard on their website where residents can track their progress.

As preparations for next year's budget are underway, Mayor Yemi has expressed his commitment to exploring ways to further strengthen the City's pothole repair program and continue improving Colorado Springs' streets. With continued collaboration between residents and local government, it is hoped that these efforts will result in even better service and smoother roads for the community.
