City of Chicago Encourages Individuals Identified in the Illinois Accountability Commission Report to Come Forward as an Independent Review Moves Forward
EntSun News/11097657
CHICAGO ~ Chicago officials are urging individuals to come forward and provide information to the Chicago Police Department (CPD) regarding their experiences during federal immigration enforcement operations in the city. This call for participation comes after the release of a report by the Illinois Accountability Commission (IAC) on Operation Midway Blitz.
Mayor Brandon Johnson emphasized the importance of speaking out, stating, "The courage it takes to come forward after experiencing trauma at the hands of your own government cannot be overstated." He acknowledged that many people may have reasons to hesitate, such as fear of retaliation or a belief that their voice will not matter. However, he stressed that accountability begins with those who are willing to tell the truth about what happened.
The IAC has provided its completed report to CPD, and the department is currently reviewing its findings. The report includes allegations from residents, advocates, legal observers, and community members regarding Operation Midway Blitz. CPD's review will be independent and will consider all available evidence, including any additional information provided by members of the public.

Interim CPD Superintendent Fred Waller emphasized the importance of community assistance in these investigations. He stated, "Our members are trained to document facts and preserve evidence effectively, just as we do with all investigations." He encouraged anyone who believes they were harmed to come forward and file a first-person complaint.
Mayor Johnson's "ICE On Notice" Executive Order clarified that CPD will accept reports alleging violations of state or local criminal law by federal officials. This order has been in effect since it was issued and residents have never been required to wait for additional administrative processes before filing a report.
Residents can file an information report at any CPD district station or by calling 311. Those who possess photographs, videos, or other evidence are asked to bring it in person to any district station so it can be properly documented and incorporated into the department's review.
The city recognizes that recounting traumatic experiences can be difficult, but they stress the importance of every report received. It will help ensure that the historical record is as complete as possible and that allegations of unlawful conduct are evaluated based on all available evidence.
The CPD's review is ongoing and they are prepared to investigate any reports of unlawful conduct by federal officials. The city is committed to holding everyone accountable under the law and encourages anyone with information to come forward and participate in the process.
