Brooklyn Social Worker & Entrepreneur creates stylish apparel to benefit needy families in Brooklyn
EntSun News/10785613
Brooklyn social worker, turned entrepreneur, is making is making huge strides in creating an innovative and creative statement in the fashion industry while serving families in need in Brooklyn.
NEW YORK - EntSun -- Tamara Dopwell is a Brooklyn Social Worker who has a pizazz for style and fashion, and a heart for those in need. She graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice before pursuing her Masters in Social Work from New York University. Through her clinical work with NYU, she found her soul's purpose working with children and families in the social work industry.
In working with families on a daily basis, she found herself wanting to give more of herself to the individuals in her path, outside of her social work. Many times, this meant diving into her own pockets to give monetary gifts to those in need, or purchasing items that they needed. She found out quickly that her heart was bigger than her personal resources and she knew she needed to find a solution. Tamara wanted to be able to develop an independent solution that would provide the ability to bring more money into her life so that she could give even more to those she wanted to help. Through this desire, she developed "Designs by Tee", a funky and fun apparel business.

Tamara attributes her strong faith in God and love for humanity as the driving force behind her inspiration in designs. She jokes to the fact that while social workers are recognized for being innovative, they are not typically the first to be coined "fashionable". With her wit, and flair for style, she's changing that with one design at a time! People are taking notice too, Dopwell recently entered her designs in the Long Island Fashion 4 Purpose fashion show and is slated to be featured in another fashion show next month for Kurvy women (plus size).
With her designs catching on, she has been featured in subscription boxes and her apparel is being placed in pop-up shops in NYC. One of her latest popular designs is her "Unapologetically Black" tee. Dopwell wants to remind others that when they are shopping, they aren't just making statements with her creative designs, they're also playing a part of helping others in need. True to her original mission to help those around her, Tamara Dopwell designates 10% of all sales as donation to provide assistance to local disadvantaged children and families in Brooklyn NYC.
