George Neeb's Picture Books
BRANTFORD, Ontario - EntSun -- Hieroglyphics, Egyptian gods, Chinese dragons... George Neeb's picture books include them all! "What I love most about being an author and illustrator," says Neeb, "is creating books that bring history to life. As a teacher, I used picture books to motivate my students." Neeb believes that everyone loves a good picture book and when these stories include facts related to student subjects, everyone benefits. "I wanted to create books that teachers could use to reinforce history and art – two subjects that I loved teaching." Neeb has created two stories about Ancient Egypt and one about Ancient China. "My next book will be about Ancient Greece," says Neeb. The books have been well-received by educators and students. Museum gift shops have also shown interest in carrying the books.

Neeb creates illustrations by replicating the styles of each culture he writes about. "My Egyptian stories are illustrated in the style of papyrus paintings. I drew the characters in two-dimensional style so readers could see how unique and beautiful Egyptian art is then I added texture with paint." His Chinese story was done with tea dyed paper to replicate the hue of ancient silk paintings. "It is so much fun to experiment and find ways to replicate ancient styles. I always include instructions in my books and on my website so readers can learn how I did my illustrations."
