Bloomington: City to Host Hopewell Update Meeting Oct. 27
EntSun News/11104716
~ Bloomington will hold a public meeting on Tuesday, October 27, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Bloomington First Church of the Nazarene, 700 W. Howe St., to update residents on redevelopment of the former IU Health Bloomington Hospital site and related projects.
The meeting is open to the public and will include time for questions. It will also be available through Community Access Television Services, with a recording posted afterward at catstv.net, the city said.
Topics will include Hopewell South, the first city-led residential phase, where plans call for 98 homes and new streets, lanes, sidewalks and other neighborhood infrastructure. Officials will also discuss Hopewell Commons park improvements, public art and nearby roadway work; a proposed public safety facility at 714 S. Rogers St.; and planned Second Street upgrades for bicycles, pedestrians, transit, traffic signals, stormwater, lighting and accessibility.

A brief update will cover Opportunity Zones and what the designation could mean for future investment in the area.
The city began master planning for Hopewell in 2020 after IU Health relocated its hospital. In 2025, the city changed course on Hopewell South, saying the previous development model no longer aligned with construction costs, housing needs and long-term financial viability.
As petitioner for Hopewell South, the city says the development process is helping staff identify requirements, review processes and permitting steps that could cause delays or unnecessary complexity. The city plans to use those findings to inform broader efforts to improve how housing projects move from concept to construction in Bloomington.
Residents interested in purchasing a home at Hopewell South or receiving project updates can complete the city's Hopewell interest form.
