EntSun News/11041287
~ The Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy has announced the launch of the Barbara Bush Centennial, a yearlong celebration honoring the 100th anniversary of its founder's birth. Barbara Pierce Bush, who was born on June 8, 1925, was not only a beloved first lady but also an accomplished author, mother, and grandmother. She was a passionate advocate for literacy and established the foundation in 1989, remaining actively involved until her passing at the age of 92 in 2018.
The official launch of the Barbara Bush Centennial will take place on November 20, 2024, with a special Celebration of Reading event at a private club in New York City. This event was created by Barbara Bush over three decades ago and brings together bestselling authors, entertainers, and special guests to raise support for nationwide literacy programs and increase awareness of the country's literacy challenge.

In regards to her involvement with the foundation's work, Brooke Shields stated that "literacy is opportunity" and that she is honored to partner with the Barbara Bush Foundation to support their life-changing work.
Throughout 2025, the Barbara Bush Centennial will continue with a series of Celebration of Reading events in Miami, Florida; Kennebunkport, Maine; Dallas Texas; and Washington D.C.
