Award-Winning Fiction Writer Sheds Light on Emotional Teenage Hardships in Between the Ocean and the Stars
EntSun News/10959598
Debut author M.M. Cochran's mysterious and romantic coming of age YA novel makes an indie publishing splash
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - EntSun -- Award-winning independent publisher IngramElliott is excited to release a fresh new voice in YA fiction – Between the Ocean and the Stars is available October 18, 2022 from award-winning fiction writer M.M. Cochran.
Born a storyteller, the author's yearning to share poetic prose with the world grabbed hold when she was just a child running into the woods with a leather journal. When her teenage summers took a toll on friendships and relationships, she used her artistic skill to create stories and characters that other teens could relate to. Her debut young adult novel, Between the Ocean and the Stars, reflects just that.
A moody romantic mystery that blends the excitement of streaming series Outer Banks with the dark emotions of the After series of books and films, Between the Ocean and the Stars revolves around newcomer Sam Carter who encounters Ophelia Island's mysterious diner girl, Georgia Gabeheart, and her secrets, lying just beneath the surface.
"The beauty of Between the Ocean and the Stars is that it shows teenagers at their best and their worst, and that's the whole point," M. M. Cochran says. "Mostly, this book reflects the resolution of their struggles. I want teenage readers to make a connection with these characters and know they are not alone in their emotional summers of love and heartbreak."

When a hurricane sweeps Sam into a police investigation and Georgia is nowhere to be found, Sam gives himself only one option: love, even if loving might end in tragedy.

Book Excerpt
She didn't look like she needed me. She didn't act like she needed me. But we all want something we can't have at least once in our lives, and she was my something. She was my something from the moment I saw her yelling on the beach in the burning May sun.
It was a combination of things that compelled me––maybe the newness of the move, my desperate attempt to fall in love with something on Ophelia Island, or the desire to find somewhere to stay, someone to save.

She never needed me, but I was pretty sure I needed her.
In every moment I spent with her, forever without her seemed unimaginable, at least until the brute force of her secrets struck me, and I realized that things this good don't always last. Summer love never makes it to fall. Shooting stars rarely reach the ocean.
