Web Series "I Hear You" Screens In Front of A Celebrity Filled Audience
EntSun News/10801530
The groundbreaking web series that challenges stereotypes about the deaf community had it's premier in westwood. The audience was treated to a summary of the first season on screen, a Q & A with the series creators, and a red carpet reception.
NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif. - EntSun -- Some people sit around wishing to accomplish a dream, and others act on it. The latter is the case for Hollywood Mother-Daughter duo Shelley Meche'tte and Bree K. Jones, who created a web series on their own terms and a severely scarce budget.
Jones, a Deaf Culture Merger (one who bridges the gap between the Deaf and hearing cultures, bringing to surface the misconceptions each culture has about the other), initially desired to host workshops for influencers in the TV & Film industry about Deaf community and culture, so that Hollywood would be able to better understand this undervalued community.
After a phone conversation with a prominent Casting Director about Jones' desires, it was suggested that Jones create a web series exemplifying why it was so important to shine a light on the Deaf community. It was then that Jones' light bulb turned on. She approached her mother with the idea, and a day later, Jones and her mother Meche'tte were in development.

After a lengthy process of pre-production which included fundraising, securing locations, casting both Deaf and hearing actors...and of course, writing a script that consistently included culture mediation, the duo were determined to make something great!
The result was 5 released episodes of, "I Hear You."
"I Hear You," is a trailblazing dramedy that explores the relationships of five multifarious college students (3-Deaf, 2-hearing), adjusting to a new and unaccustomed world as they learn to see past communication barriers, cultural differences and unspoken prejudices.
The Hollywood screening, which was held at the Sepulveda Screening room, was attended by VIP industry guests, who were provided special invitations. The event was moderated by "What Women Want" podcast host, Kristin West. The audience enjoyed an informative Q&A which not only included the creators of I Hear You, but also cast members of the show. Post screening, guests partook in a fun filled Red Carpet after party at Delphi Greek Restaurant in Westwood, CA.
We need more shows on television that promote diversity and inclusivity in all aspects of life...not just racial...and I Hear You is the show that does that! The call is out! Let's get this show on a network!
