VFW Mobilizes to Support Members and Communities Affected by Eastern Washington Wildfires
EntSun News/11098779
SPOKANE, Wash. - EntSun -- As wildfires burn across eastern and central Washington, the Veterans of
Foreign Wars Department of Washington is in direct communication with its members in the
affected areas and is working to support veterans, their families, and the broader public in every way it can.
VFW posts across the fire-affected region have opened their doors to displaced residents and are mobilizing volunteers to meet urgent needs. In the Spokane area, post members have stepped up to help operate a food booth at the fairgrounds in support of the American Red Cross, and the Deer Park post has opened a field where evacuees can bring RVs and trailers. Across the region, VFW members are volunteering wherever help is needed.
"Our members in eastern Washington are facing an incredibly hard stretch, and the VFW stands with them. We're in direct contact with our posts in the affected areas, and our members are doing what they've always done—opening their doors, working alongside the Red Cross, and helping their neighbors however they can," said Frank Persa, Commander, VFW Department of Washington. "That's who we are. We take care of our own, and we take care of our communities."

Communities and posts currently affected include the Spokane area (Post 51), Airway Heights (Post 3386), Deer Park (Post 3067), Yakima, Wenatchee, and Leavenworth.
The Department will continue to coordinate with its posts and share additional information as the situation develops. Members in affected areas who need assistance—or who wish to volunteer—are encouraged to contact their local post or the Department of Washington.
