True Fleece Merino to sponsor the 2019 Yukon Quest International Dog Sled Race.
Whitehorse, YT February 2 2019: It was winter of 1983 when three mushers sat a table in the Bull's Eye Saloon in Fairbanks and hatched the plan. They would travel an international route from Fairbanks, Alaska to Whitehorse, Yukon Territory. The race would span roughly 1,000 miles and travel along historic routes between gold rush hubs.
The next year 26 teams left Fairbanks bound for Whitehorse, 20 teams made it all the way, six had to drop out. The first champion of the Yukon Quest was legendary musher Sonny Linder finishing the 1,000 mile race in 12 days. The last finisher came in four days later.
Merino wool garments are key to staying warm in challenging environments like those that this international race offers. Start with the base layer that can absorb your sweat from exertion, add in the 1/4 zip jersey on top, followed by the hoodie.

Those three layers work in unison to keep the sweat you generate with heavy exercise from making you cold when you stop the activity. Layers are key to staying warm in variable conditions, and True Fleece Merino is the softest, most effective clothing you can use.
True Fleece applauds adventure seekers like the competitors in the Yukon Quest International Sled Dog Race, and is proud to offer our double layer reversible beanies to all 31 competitors in this year's field. True Fleece Merino is also proud to donate $500 worth of our clothing to the silent auction fundraiser so that the Yukon Quest can continue for years to come.
True Fleece friend and veteran musher Michelle Phillips from Tagish Lake Kennels will be making her seventh run in the Yukon Quest this February and will proudly be wearing True Fleece Merino layers.
