Toni Newman, the Executive Director for St. James Infirmary, wins the Legacy Award for the 2019 San Francisco Transgender Day of Visibility to be held at the SOMA Arts Center.
SAN FRANCISCO - March 25, 2019 - EntSun -- It is with great pleasure to announce that St. James Infirmary's very own Executive Director Toni Newman will be the recipient of the Legacy Award at the 2019 Transgender Day of Visibility due to the extensive and transformative work Toni has contributed through her fearless advocacy for San Francisco's transgender community through the pursuit of expanding free and effective healthcare and civil liberties for San Francisco's sex workers. St. James serves as a model for compassionate, peer-based healthcare here in San Francisco, providing refuge and care for our most vulnerable peoples facing violence, homelessness, and a political climate that preys on and overpolices our city's LGBTQ and sex worker communities.
Prior to her arrival as Executive Director of St. James Infirmary, Toni Newman has amassed an extraordinary body of work over the years, spanning back to her graduation from Wake Forest University in 1985, Toni has been tirelessly serving the people of San Francisco and the greater State of California at Maitri Compassionate Care, Equality California, and To Help Everyone Health and Wellness Center as well as voicing her inspiring transformation in the bestselling memoir I Rise - The Transformation of Toni Newman.
