Spokane City Council Legislative Meetings Now Wednesday Evenings
EntSun News/11096742
~ Spokane City Council has recently made a significant change to its meeting schedule, with the passing of an ordinance to move its Legislative Session from Monday evenings to Wednesday evenings. This decision, which will take effect on July 15, 2026, was made in order to improve community participation and avoid Monday meeting cancellations.
According to Council President Betsy Wilkerson, this change may seem out of the ordinary but it is expected to ultimately make council meetings much more efficient. "This change will allow more time for council actions to be reflected in the agendas during the agenda review session," she stated. "I know that change can be difficult for some, but I expect the new schedule will ultimately make council meetings much more efficient."
The decision to reschedule regular council meetings was made through Resolution 2024-0119, which was adopted on December 9, 2024. The City Council took into consideration significant community input gathered through surveys and stakeholder discussions before concluding that holding the regular legislative session on Wednesday evenings would serve the best interests of city employees, council members and their staff, as well as the citizens of Spokane.

Previously, most City Council meetings were held on Mondays, including committee meetings followed by agenda review sessions and the legislative session in the evening. This schedule often resulted in long days for council members and staff and left little time to inform the public about changes to the council agenda arising from amendments or other actions taken at the afternoon agenda review session.
In addition to moving the legislative session from Monday evening to Wednesday evening, there will also be a change in schedule for the afternoon Agenda Review session. It will now be held on Tuesdays at 11 a.m., giving the City Clerk's office an additional day to provide updated agendas for public viewing.
Starting next Tuesday, July 14th, Council Committee meetings will be held at 1 p.m. each Tuesday while beginning Wednesday, July 15th, the Council's legislative session will be held at its usual time of 6 p.m. The meetings will continue to be streamed on CityCable5 and the Council's Facebook page for those unable to attend in person.
