Award-Winning Short Film Starring BAFTA-Winner Owen Teale and Olivier-Winner Sophie Thompson Launches Festival Run Across USA, Canada and Croatia

TORONTO - EntSun -- Fun Republic Pictures, BAI-LEY and the Canadian Short Screenplay Competition (CSSC) announce that Something Pointless, produced by David Cormican and directed by Asa Bailey, will make its World Premiere as a finalist at the 56th USA Film Festival in Dallas. The film screens Thursday, April 23rd at 7:00pm.

Written by Neil Graham and David Cormican — based on Graham's 2010 CSSC first-place winning screenplay — Something Pointless follows a lonely, bullied boy and an elderly man whose pointless daily ritual becomes an act of defiance against insignificance.

The film stars Leo Harris, BAFTA-winner Owen Teale, Sophie Thompson, and SAG Award-nominee Sule Rimi.

"We are thrilled to bring Something Pointless to Dallas," said producer David Cormican. "This film has been a labour of love — rooted in a screenplay that waited fifteen years to reach the screen."

"Something Pointless embraces pure sentimentality," said director Asa Bailey. "A rare opportunity to portray being human without frills — just heartfelt storytelling. We're proud of what this cast and crew have made."

Following its Dallas premiere, the film travels to the Yorkton Film Festival in Saskatchewan — where it received a Best Short Film nomination. The original screenplay won Yorkton's Writer's Block Crystal award in 2010.

Other screenings: International Sound & Film Music Festival in Croatia (May 22), where composer Andrea Bellucci has been shortlisted. The film is a quarter-finalist at The Bay International Film Festival (Jan 29, 2027).

Produced by Cormican and Bailey. Executive producers: Academy Award-winners Shawn Christensen and Damon Russell, Brenden Hubbard, Dwayne Hill, and Zane Lackey. Cinematography by BAFTA-winner Keefa Chan, editing by Laurence Cohen, casting by Victor Jenkins, original score by Andrea Bellucci.

Shot in Newport, Wales, May 2025.
