Ricardo Bacelar and Airto Moreira release collaborative album "Maracanós"
EntSun News/11090350
FORTALEZA, Brazil - EntSun -- Pianist/composer Ricardo Bacelar and percussionist Airto Moreira (Miles Davis, Chick Corea, Stan Getz), release their highly anticipated album, Maracanós, on Jasmin Music (4/24/2026). The inspiration for the album emerged during the filming of a documentary that delves into the personal and musical journeys of Moreira and his partner, renowned vocalist Flora Purim, who is featured on the single "Voo da Tarde."
Maracanós was recorded in 2024 and 2025 at Bacelar's Jasmin Studios in Fortaleza, Brazil. The album fuses acoustic and digital instruments to present a wide tonal mix of rhythmic and harmonic music, blending several genres over eight tracks. Rio de Janeiro's Kalimera String Quartet is featured on two tracks, with arrangements by Liduíno Pitombeira. The single "Pé no Chã" is complemented by a dynamic video adapted to the music, which is also being released on April 24, 2026.

Moreira states, "I was also able to use my voice quite a bit. Sometimes I sing for a few seconds when I'm not playing." This month, Moreira received the prestigious NEA Jazz Master Fellowship, as part of the 2026 class of honorees, further acknowledging his contributions to Jazz and the broader arts community.
"Maracanós" explores unconventional paths, combining acoustic instruments and synthesizers into a sonic architecture that balances improvisation, harmonic density, and timbral experimentation," says Bacelar. "Creativity and freedom guided the making of the album. I wanted to honor the freedom and experimentation that are so present in Airto and Flora's music and in their own history. I fused acoustic music with percussion, strings, and electronic textures, giving the album originality and a highly immersive character that moves away from the commercial model commonly found in today's music industry."
"Maracanós" is a release from Bacelar's music label Jasmin Music. A multi-instrumentalist, singer, and arranger, under the Jasmin imprint, Bacelar has produced a catalog of singles and albums in collaboration with artists such as Flávio Venturini, Leila Pinheiro, Toninho Horta, Roberto Menescal, Fagner, Flora Purim, Jaques Morelenbaum, Ednardo, Amelinha, Delia Fischer, and Gilberto Gil, highlighting the richness of Brazilian music.
