Project Saving Grace Accepting Donations to Provide Homeless Women with Personal Supplies

LOS ANGELES - EntSun -- In October, a Los Angeles woman was fined $500 by police for stealing a $6.45 packet of tampons from a grocery store. It's an incident that highlights that choosing between food and sanitary items is a dire reality for women doing it tough. And one that organizations like Bizzy Hands Kind Hearts are helping to address.

"I read an article several years ago that talked about 'the homeless period.' It was something that me  – and obviously dozens of women – had never thought about. I was really surprised that it was happening in the United States but I think I was more surprised that few organizations had done anything," says Octavia Clayton Smith, founder of  Bizzy Hands Kind Hearts, an organization that collects and distributes sanitary and personal products annually to women in homeless shelters throughout downtown Los Angeles.

Three years ago Clayton Smith and several friends organized their first giving event. Today they have given more than 1,000 bags per year and hope to double it through their "Project Saving Grace" Go Fund Me page.

All donated funds will go towards items such as masks, hand sanitizer, Carmex, wipes, panty shields, travel size lotions, deodorants, etc. All monetary donations are tax-deductible.
