Philadelphia Artist Brings Gallery to your Doorstep

PHILADELPHIA - EntSun -- While most artists chase likes and followers, Alex Spalding is chasing something more immediate: real human connection. In a move that defies art-world convention, Spalding has begun selling original artwork door to door throughout Philadelphia, sparking curiosity and conversation with every knock.

"The way I paint is all about directness," he added, "Going door to door is another way of this approach to art. I want to share and connect with my public. I love meeting everyone in the city, reactions have been very positive."

Responding to the popularity of web apps and the general decline of door to door selling strategies, he said, "Of course, I have social media like everyone else. But, I've always struggled with isolation. Making personal connections is important to me. As an artist, I want to build bridges between us all."

He paints portraits of women with wild animals and his work is recognizable for its bold colors, exaggerated expressions, and that every painting bears a highly legible signature at the bottom. "I get a lot of comments on my signature, almost as much as the art. People tell me it looks nice. So, that's a relief. It would be terrible to have to go back and erase them all."
