NIFT GAT Takers Must Keep Preparing for the Situation Test

NIFT written entrance examination for the year 2018 was held on 21st January and its results are likely to be announced soon by the end of February or early March. The delay may be due to the fact that a record number of people have taken the NIFT entrance exam in 2018. According to some inside sources, this figure is closer to three and a half lacs. This entrance examination provides the opportunity to pupils who wish to pursue a career in design and fashion in the top design college in India- the National Institute of Fashion Technology for undergraduate courses. NIFT offers several disciplines under B. Des and B.F. Tech for UG.

Aspirants who have applied for B.F. Tech at NIFT have only one entrance test (GAT) to appear for, unlike the B. Des pursuers who also need to take a situation test (CAT) after passing the GAT. So while the former group can patiently wait for the results of GAT to come out, the later must continue their NIFT preparation for the second phase. Although it may not seem justifiable for many as there is always some uncertainty regarding the outcome. This is the reason why so many design and fashion aspirants refrain from exercising their skills for the Creative Aptitude Test (CAT) until the results of GAT are declared.

However, according to the experts, this discontinuation of practice and lack of updated knowledge makes the design and fashion aspirants lag behind after they clear the GAT. Once the results of GAT are published, there is hardly a month or two after which the CAT is scheduled. From the final selection list in the past few years, it has been noticed that aspirants who are in constant practice have thrice as much success rate than those who were not into regular NIFT preparation.

Since the situation test of NIFT is pretty unpredictable, reputed design entrance coaching institutes recommend having knowledge of the parameters of evaluation. This makes NIFT preparation easier as the aspirants get into the habit of observing things around them and also making sketches and models of those. An aspirant who practices' making models and sketches until the mains exam also gets the opportunity to grasp or rectify design related fundamental concepts and techniques. The last-minute preparation tips from eminent NIFT experts can prove to be extremely useful in this regard. Aspirants are advised to practice a lot of 3D models minding the use of craft materials in limited quantities. Unless they practice really well, it would be a difficult task to execute their creative ideas within a time constraint of two hours.
